Every story must have a beginning, and mine starts with a Physical Anthropology class assignment. For this class assignment we were tasked with creating an educational social media post about an ancestral homo (human) species. Partnered with my friend and fellow anthropologist, Maud, we decided to create an instagram post on the species Homo Habilis. To create the post, Maud introduced me to the creative platform Canva. Right away, I fell in love with the ease of usability and creative possibilities this software had to offer!

My first Canva creation and educational post!
I would continue to use Canva a bit over the summer for my summer internship. And after this internship I realized I needed to start building my storytelling skills and promoting my 'personal brand' if I wanted to become a professional 'storyteller', I remembered how much I enjoyed the Physical Anthropology assignment and being most comfortable with Instagram decided to test storytelling on instagram. Thus blyms_storytimes (pronounced B-limes) was born.

I actually started making posts on canva first. Beginning with one very similar in design to the class assignment, starting by finding a scientific article I found fascinating and distilling the findings down to a more understandable format.

Then, I decided to make the posts more personable. So I started researching and creating educational posts about experiences I had and places I visited.

I made this post in reflection of my royally AWESOME day trip to NY to see SIX the musical with the fam.

I was fortunate enough to be the teacher's assistant for one of my favorite courses- Paleoecology! I made this post after our field trip to Indiana to collect Cincinnatian fossils.
My original plan for this instagram account was to publish a post once a week... which as you can tell by a total of 6 posts didn't happen...oops! Anyways, after I had enough posts made to last me until the start of school I decided to create my storytelling account and publish my first post.
